Ladies and gentlemen, fellow re-enactors, the summer of 2013 will be the start of Omaha beachs celebration days.
In the hope that this will become a reccurent event, Normandy Liberty Days encourages you all to join us at Omaha Beach next summer between 6th July and 7th August 2013, to participate in this first gathering of D-Day enthusiasts.
Come and join this meeting of collectors and living history re-enactors, in the setting up of an American WW2 military camp, which will be open to the general public for a whole month.
The site for this camp will be situated about 100m from the American Military Cemetery at Colleville-Sur-Mer and less than 300m from Omaha Beach.
A food outlet, showers and toilet facilities will be provided.
Spend your summer holidays with your family at this place steeped in history and share this re-enacting experience with your friends and other D-Day enthusiasts.
There will be a display area, open to the public, for exhibiting your material and you will be among the first visitors to the new museum opening at Omaha Beach next year.
While your wives and children are at the beach, you will be able to join in the ceremonies and commemorations taking place at the monuments dedicated to our Liberators in the regions towns and villages.
The following events are planned (list non-exhaustive):
- Between July 7 and July 12, a series of wreath-laying at American memorials.
- On July 13, a Liberation Ball with participants wearing military or civilian dress of that time.
- July 17 and July 18, a vehicle parade from Omaha Beach to Saint-L, to celebrate the liberation of Saint-L by the American 29th Infantry Division.
- Around July 25, a ceremony at the American Military Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer.
During July and until August 7, Rodolphe RUTMAN, a documentary film maker who has already produced three films about the D-Day Landings (seen on France 2, France 5, Arte France, ZDF in Germany, Normandie TV and Odysee), offers you the opportunity to take part in the making of two new documentary films about the D-Day Landings.
It is hoped to re-enact scenes of the summer of 1944, such as the liberation of a Normandy village by American troops, the progress of US troops through the Normandy hedgerows, attacking a German trench, and hedgerow battle scenes.
These two new films will be seen on French TV during 2014 as part of the commemorations of the 70th anniversary of the Normandy Landings.
As you can see, we are proposing one hell of a programme for your Summer 2013 come in droves and remember to reserve your pitch as from now - its free !
If you would like to take part in the filming, let us know right away.
